Jack Zhang (China · ♂) — A Qingdao-born immigrant who came to Melbourne at 15 and worked his way through a computer science degree, he and friends ran a coffee shop and hit costly cross-border payments importing beans, which inspired Airwallex.
Max Li (China · ♂) — An architect and university friend of Jack Zhang who co-invested in the Melbourne coffee shop where the cross-border payment pain surfaced, becoming Airwallex's head of design.
Lucy Liu (China · ♀) — Born in China and raised in Auckland, a finance graduate who left her CICC investment role and joined the founding team on a career break, becoming Airwallex president.
Jacob Dai (China · ♂) — Met Jack Zhang studying computer science at Melbourne University and joined to lead Airwallex's technology stack as CTO.
Ki-lok Wong (♂) — Part of Zhang's Melbourne university network, he joined the founding team as principal architect to help build Airwallex's payments infrastructure.
