DTU has the strongest deep-tech founder culture in the Nordics, anchored by DTU Skylab, a 5,500 m2 innovation hub on the Lyngby campus that produces roughly 80 new businesses per year through programs like Skylab Ignite, Skylab Pilots and the 13-week X-Tech course, plus a 2-year MSc in Technology Entrepreneurship. DTU's 'Alumni and friends' network has over 45,000 members (more than half of all living identified graduates), heavily concentrated in Denmark's Capital Region but increasingly international. Its standout names are genuinely globally influential in engineering and tech: Anders Hejlsberg (MSc 1980), the Microsoft Technical Fellow who created Turbo Pascal, C# and TypeScript; Haldor Topsøe, founder of the catalysis multinational Topsoe; Ove Arup, founder of the Arup engineering group; and Per Vilhelm Brüel, co-founder of Brüel & Kjær. DTU runs the H.C. Ørsted Lecture series (since 1998), which twice a year brings leading international researchers — including a long roster of Nobel laureates — to lecture for students, alumni and the public. DTU sits in Kongens Lyngby ~15 km north of central Copenhagen (about 20 min by car, 40 by train), inside one of Europe's denser academic clusters: roughly 12 universities in Greater Copenhagen including the University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen Business School and the IT University, collectively educating ~76,000 students a year.
