Founded in 1972 by Eugene Kleiner (one of Fairchild's "traitorous eight") and Hewlett-Packard executive Tom Perkins, alongside Frank Caufield and Brook Byers. With Sequoia, it defined the first generation of Sand Hill Road firms, incubating Genentech and backing the formative companies of each computing wave.
Refocused in 2019 under Mamoon Hamid and Ilya Fushman on smaller, concentrated early-stage funds, classic Series A craft with select growth follow-ons, after the sprawling cleantech/growth era.
